Biometric scanners enhance Olympic Park security as big build ramps up

Biometric hand and iris scanners have been installed for workers to access the Olympic Park construction site as part of planned measures to enhance safety and security as the ‘big build’ accelerates. Work is now underway on all permanent venues in the 2.5 sq km Olympic Park as well as bridges, roads and utilities networks. Enhanced access controls and other proportionate measures are being phased in to ensure the safety and security of local people and the 4,500-strong workforce, which is expected to double by the end of 2010.

The Terra Mount Blocker was successfully crash tested to BSI PAS 68: 2007. The Terra Mount Blocker does not require any foundations and is ideal for sites with restrictions on available foundation depths.
The test was conducted to prove the arresting capability of a Frontier Pitts Terra Mount Blocker when impacted with a 7500kg test vehicle at a speed of 80km/hour (50mph). In accordance with PAS 68-69 2007 and the Department of State test standard SD-STD-2.01 Revision A, Certification Class K12, a lorry was used to act as the test vehicle.

Based on a gently sloping site, the 16-year-old Conquest Hospital is a modern District General Hospital in Hastings. In 2002 Conquest merged with Eastbourne Hospital to form East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust. The busy Trust serves the population of East Sussex and employs over 5000 staff.

When the hospital’s access system failed in 2007 the cost of installing a new system by their current provider was too high. Security Manager, John Kirk investigated installing the Net2 access control system from Paxton Access.
