Samsung introduce single channel ONVIF compliant encoder solution

Samsung has launched a new single channel encoder which provides a cost effective and easy to implement method of adding analogue cameras to an IP/network based surveillance system.

The SPE-100 encoder enables images captured by an analogue camera to be transmitted in real-time across a network at 4CIF resolution. A multi-streaming feature provides the option of utilising H.264, MPEG-4 or MJPEG compression to minimise bandwidth consumption by simultaneously transmitting images at various frame rates and resolutions to different locations on a network.

“The SPE-100 has been designed for customers who wish to exploit the benefits of transmitting video over IP, whilst at the same time taking advantage of their existing analogue cameras and domes” said Peter Ainsworth, Senior Product Manager for Samsung Techwin Europe Ltd. “Significantly, the SPE-100 supportsboth Samsung and Pelco D/P telemetry protocols. This will be of particular importance to customers who want to include analogue speed domes within their network based surveillance systems.”

In the event of an alarm, the SPE-100 can be programmed to trigger a dome to move to a preset position and record images relating to the alarm onto an SD card, whilst at the same time it can send an e-mail notification.

Samsung’s NET-I Viewer software, which is supplied free of charge with the SPE-100, provides customers with an easy to use graphical user interface. Authorised users can also gain access to live images, or images recorded onto a memory card inserted in the SPE-100’s SD slot, via a web browser.

The ONVIF compliant SPE-100 has a Video Loop Through feature enabling captured images to be shared with other devices, such as a display monitor or locally based DVR, prior to being encoded for transmission over a network. The SPE-100 also offers bi-directional audio allowing interactive communication between a camera’s location and a control room.
