| TTA Members working together

The Tile Association checks potential member companies for financial health and insists on references so it isn’t surprising if TTA members trust their fellow members and like to work with them. Here are some recent examples of co-operation between TTA members.
Wilton Studios have been working with supplier Studio Ceramics of Newark to lay Travertine Classic, a mixed size format Italian porcelain tile, over
u ndertile heating, in a domestic dining room. The Mosaic company has been working with Darrell Hawkins of Tilewell Ceramics at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. The Mosaic company produced a 44420 x 2680 mm mural of the Arsenal Cannon which was fixed by Darrell in the Concourse area of the stadium. The mosaic used was from the KT range of 20 x 20 x 4 mm glass in the Arsenal colours and Darrell used BAL green star adhesive and grey fine wall grout. The job was completed and all concerned were happy. Then, quite unexpectedly in August, came a request for a second cannon. This time it was to be 4617 x 2637 mm (larger than before) and it had to be re-designed, produced and fixed before the end of the month; the first match of the season; just 2 weeks. This second cannon can be found on the Concourse Upper Level 3.
BAL products were also used in the magnificent 300 acre Carrick, the luxury De Vere resort on the shores of Loch Lomond. The Clubhouse offers the very best in leisure facilities: stunning lagoon-style swimming pool, world-class spa, steam room, saunas, plunge pool and more. The Tiling Company were the contractors and their job was the perfect ‘fixing’ to walls and floors of some 4,000 square metres of porcelain tiles, limestone tiles, mosaics, pebbles all in a variety of tile sizes, types, colours and combinations. Every one of the many thousands of tiles, mosaics and pebbles was fixed with either BAL Single Part Flexible or BAL PTB Flexible adhesive.
St Malachys Church, located in Belfasts Alfred Street, was recently declared Northern Ireland project of the Year by the Royal Institution of Charter Surveyors. The Northern Ireland project winners will now compete against other projects around the world, with the overall winners to be announced in London later in the year. The floor was manufactured and fitted by Armatile using Mapei’s Ultracolour grouts and Schlüter movement joints.
Eight TTA members came together to create a new Boyden branch; a real TTA project. Boydens are opening their flagship Purley Way Trade Centre in Croydon in January 2011. The 8000sqft, two floor branch will probably be the highest specification tile trade outlet in the So uth of England. Johnsons will have a ‘derivative’ of their highly successful Material Lab (called ‘Absolute Lab’) on display there, Schlüter-Systems will have full working models of their BEKOTEC-THERM underfloor heating systems, Schlüter KERDI Construction Board as well as their profiles. Boyden worked closely with Vision Display for the design, with Johnson Tiles for the Absolute Lab and with Schlüter-Systems for profiles, underfloor heating, construction boards, wetrooms etc. BAL, ARDEX and Mapei, were also involved as they will be using the facilities for presentations and trade training. The whole 8000square feet (743sqm) was tiled by Harper & Edwards Ltd.
That is 8 TTA members working together to create a very prestigious project not to mention the TTA member whose products will be on display.
